The Chihuahua with a long and smooth coat is the smallest dog in the world.

We believe that it origins from Mexico and we know that the Chihuahua lived there in the 9^th and 10^th century. In some history books about Aztec population, mythology, and religion we are told that the Chihuahua was very important for the Aztecs’ lives. They believed that the Chihuahua was their ticket to heaven.

The Americans collected the little smooth-coated Chihuahua in the Chihuahua state of Mexico. The smooth-coated Chihuahua is the original. But the long-coated Chihuahua is very popular because their long coat is very easy to trim.  The long-coated Chihuahua is bred with help from the Papillon, Pomeranian and Yorkshire Terrier. After World War II the race came to Europe and in 1963 it came to Denmark.

The Chihuahua is a very beautiful pet. He is a very lively, intelligent, loving and robust little dog. He does not need much exercise. He is very curious but he can bee a little shy when he meets new people. But when you first have gained his trust, you have a friend for live. The Chihuahua is very devoted to you and he will love you always. The Chihuahua is not very loud or aggressive even though he is not aware of how small he is, when he invites to fun. You have a very nice pet and a real dog in the same creature.

The Chihuahua prefers a warm climate and he prefers to be indoor. But when the sun shines he loves to lay in the sunshine. And he likes to go for a nice walk with his master.

The Chihuahua weights around two kilos. But a smaller weight and a weight up to three kilos are permitted by the race standard.

All colours and combinations of colours are permitted and the combination of the colours is often the reason why we love the Chihuahuas so much.
